Benji Gets 10 Acres
How fortunate any organization is to have an employee for more than a decade. Though none of us were around when Martin Marquez arrived at The Ranch, we believe he has been working at The Ranch for about 18 years.

Love Conquers All
I will never forget the first time I saw Anastasia. She was one of Mauricio’s nine dogs. Mauricio was the happy gardener and dog lover who died of alcohol poisoning in May.
Ellie a Perfect Addition
It's been a whole year with this cutie!! Ellie, formerly Naomi, has been such a fun and perfect addition to our little family. She's come so far from a scared 6-month old pup who couldn't even go for a walk without having to be picked up when something scary drove by.
It Takes a Village
I want to send a big thanks to everyone involved in rescuing our young golden retriever. Bill, my husband, called him, Golden, so I will too. Lori found him and knew from experience that he was no street dog. She knew he was either lost or more likely dumped.
Sailor Gets Furever Home
Clayton and I first learned about Sailor from an ad on the Adopt-a-Pet website. We both grew up with dogs and were becoming increasingly aware that we wanted to rescue one together. There was one blurry photo of Sailor and a short description that didn’t tell us much about him aside from the fact that he was a stray in Mexico and had been completely starved when he was found.
Charro a Great Match
When proposing a dog for adoption, sometimes things click immediately, other times not so much. But things usually work out just as they should in the end.
Volunteer of The Month
Barry Burrows, an amazing man, takes dogs to the airport for us a lot! He has a nice big truck that usually allows us to take all the dogs going in one load. Besides doing the driving, he helps us get the dogs in their crates. His calming voice helps everyone keep cool and collected.

Lulu Living The Good Life
Lulu is having all sorts of adventures. She has learned to run alongside me as I bike, she has many dog friends that come to visit and she spends her days lounging, running, riding in the Jeep, chasing the cat and/or swimming.
A One in a Million Dog
Oh our Maximillion - he really is one in a million. He was brought to us about six months ago when his family moved off without him. The neighbors loved Max and they wanted to make sure he was safe.
Dog of The Month
Beautiful Belen and her sister Berenice were found tied to our gate one day in May. Along with them was a bag of food and a note in Spanish asking us to please watch out for these girls as they could no longer care for them.
Sedona The Escapee
Every now and then we get a dog in that is an escape artist. Most often, they break out of their kennel and end up right at our casita where we start our day and store our food.
From Lost to Found
In mid May, ten people in Ajijic died from drinking adulterated alcohol. One of these was Mauricio Romero who was a familiar figure at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS). An avid gardener and hiker, Mauricio was also known as an herbalist and an animal lover.
A Trip Worth Taking
Victoria and I have only been in Portland six months. We moved here from Boston right before quarantine. There have been many adjustments and unknowns, but one thing we were sure about was that we wanted to rescue a dog.

Natalia Supporting Others
Natalia, akaTali, was one of my favorite dogs. She looked like a very large Border Collie. She had such a wonderful temperament. I saw her living on the lakefront near my home. The family who had her couldn’t afford to keep her and we took her.
