From Lost to Found

In mid May, ten people in Ajijic died from drinking adulterated alcohol. One of these was Mauricio Romero who was a familiar figure at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS). An avid gardener and hiker, Mauricio was also known as an herbalist and an animal lover. He had many dogs and a cat and all were well loved. After he passed, six of his dogs came to The Ranch. All of them are very friendly and well adjusted and get along with people, other dogs and cats.

Fast forward to July when flights began opening up to the US. Street Dog Hero, a wonderful rescue group in Bend, Oregon, found homes for many of our Ranch dogs, including Conan. Conan was a brown pit bull mix and a super guy. My husband and I served as flight angels. Conan and six other Ranch dogs went to Portland in mid-July. Conan made the trip like a trooper, although he did look a little shell-shocked when he arrived in Oregon.

Conan’s adopter has this to say about him: “Conan, now named Canelo, is doing well. He is a sweet and silly pup who loves his stuffed animals and chasing tennis balls. He has learned to sit, lay down on command and is working on leash walking. He is starting to get used to weekly baths and brushing his teeth, they aren't his favorite though but he will gladly does them with treats. He also continues to be affectionate and cuddly and likes to sit in laps and sleep on his back.”

The partnership between The Ranch and Street Dog Hero has brought so many dogs into loving homes.

Have a great life Canelo! Enjoy your new role as a lap dog.
