Evie came to Washington in the summer of 2022 in the middle of a heat wave after a long bus ride from Mexico.

Julie is a very warmhearted, busy, and dedicated person. She has her finger on the pulse of many different organizations, yet she still finds time be an integral part of The Ranch.

Deb is a compassionate, wonderfully direct, kind volunteer who is not afraid to take on responsibility, no matter how messy it is! Her volunteering began at The Ranch several years ago and she has since become an invaluable asset.

“Rather than rush from one patient to another, I prefer to sit with an old friend, while checking their pets,” Dr. Luis Maciel Saldierna quoted a mentor who told him this when he was a new veterinarian.

My name is Xan. You may remember me as the escapee that went on a week-long adventure recently. I had lots of people looking for me. It was a crazy, scary time.

May 2023, I was very optimistic and excited about the direction of The Ranch. We had just installed two new board members: Corrine Kelly and Dale Green.

We all know how important volunteers are for The Ranch’s operation. They take the dogs on much-needed walks, administer love, and keep an eye out for injuries, depression, and other ailments.

Mandy is approximately two and a half years old, and a true beauty in every sense of the word.

A few weeks ago, one of the members of our church announced that The Ranch was overcrowded and they were looking for people to either adopt or at least foster a dog.

When I look at this girl, I see nothing but love emanating from that happy, life-worn, silly face!

For those of us in rescue, we don’t really understand peoples' hesitancy to spay or neuter, but we sure run into resistance.

I first met April Yamaichi three years ago during the pandemic. She had come to the Lakeside area for an extended visit and like most of us found herself in a difficult position when things shut down. She found a great outlet by visiting The Ranch and we all were so happy to have her!

As a middle school teacher for 35 years, I had the opportunity to read a few outstanding YA (young adult) books. One that stands heads and shoulders above the rest is My Life in Dog Years, by the beloved children’s author, Gary Paulsen.

A few months ago, I was at Tobolandia dog park with my pooches. A couple arrived with a cute medium-sized black dog. My girl Paisley and their doggy, Chula, slowly became acquainted and began playing; they were perfectly matched in terms of both size and play style.

Dane and Adelia have been volunteering at The Ranch for over a year and they are just amazing. They come three times a week to get our dogs out on walks to get some exercise.
