Xan is Found
Written for Xan by Adelia LeBlanc
My name is Xan. You may remember me as the escapee that went on a week-long adventure recently. I had lots of people looking for me. It was a crazy, scary time.
I came to The Ranch about a year ago with my mom and five siblings. I was only about 5-6 weeks old. Eventually, everyone except me got adopted. Finally one day, a home was found for me in Seattle.
On my flight day, I was transported to the airport but unfortunately the airline was unable to take me at that time. My trip was rescheduled for the following day. I was to stay at a boarding facility overnight and I must admit I was a bit frightened. I managed to escape thinking I was close to The Ranch, the only home I know.
The Ranch quickly put together a team to start to search for me. Flyers were put up and people who live in the area were asked if they had seen me. After a week, one girl said she had seen me by a lake. Everyone headed for the beach and called my name but I was too frightened to come out. That night they put out what looked to me like a crate and it had food in it. Unfortunately, a cat beat me to it and ended up in the crate instead.
The next morning, the cat got the boot and more food was put inside. This was my big chance to fill my empty belly. Just as I stepped inside, the door slammed shut. Little did I know this was good news. A few hours later, The Ranch hands rescued me. I was so excited and apparently they were too because I was hugged and kissed a lot.
After a much needed bath, I re-joined my previous kennel mate, Lety, whom I adore. I put on a few healthy pounds and decompressed, and then took the trip north to my family in Seattle!
I learned a lot from my excursion. Freedom was nice for a little while, but it was tough trying to survive. One thing is for sure, many people care a lot about me, and would do anything to find me. I didn’t know how much I was truly loved until now.
