Po Has a Besty
Po, aka Rodolfo, is such a great boy and he is so happy. He is besties with our other Ranch rescue Lotus (who we adopted February 2020), plays all day with the kitten, and follows his 2 girls around everywhere.
What a Lucky Dog
Hello from Bellingham, Washington. Last month, I visited the Friday Harbor Animal Protection Society shelter and brought Cacho home to his new family.
Ranch Improvements
We are always working on ways to improve our operations at The Ranch. Over the past few months, we have done quite a few things to spruce up the place!
Osso the Climber
Hello! I wanted to give you an update on Ossa (previously Jazmin). It's been a jam-packed 12 days since Ossa arrived, but it feels like she's been with us forever. She can already be off-leash, sleeps through the night, knows her name (and comes when called!). I already have a velcro dog, but this little gal is even more my shadow than he is.
In Memoriam
It was with great sadness that we learned in early August that we had lost one of our very first Ranch hands, Michael Pulcino.
Jane Austen a Smart Cookie
Joni (previously Jane Austen) came to live with us in Victoria, BC, Canada just two weeks ago. She is settling in so well already. After her long flight and bus ride she was pretty exhausted, but we’ve been taking her on lots of adventures and she’s slowly coming out of her shell to show us her goofy personality.
Walk Down Memory Lane
In August, I had the very special opportunity to transport five dogs to the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington. Our relationship with this rescue is very special to both Carolyn and I.
Plan Ahead for Your Pet
Over the last six months, I have had two very close friends pass away leaving their beloved dogs. Neither one really had done a great job of planning for ensuring these dogs transition well.
Dog of the Month
August marked the third year that Snow has been in our shelter. We hate to see lovable dogs spend so much of their life with us, but Snow’s story is complicated.
Best Adoptions
I think our favorite thing we do is local adoptions. While we actually send more dogs north than we do local adoptions, we love these the most. Syd and I were talking about how much we love to see Ranch dogs in the area all happy and well loved. It makes all of the time and effort worth it.
Volunteer of the Month
Lynn Rattray has been volunteering with us for just over a year. We were so happy to have her join us after she moved Lakeside from California. Lynn is a very active person and she doesn’t shy away from walking the bigger dogs.
July/Aug. Success
May Was a Great Month
In the months of July & August, we sent 37 dogs north of the border for a forever home and we had 11 local adoptions.
Dog of the Month
Canela is a very special girl. She was discovered tied to a tree every day. Some very kind people approached the owner and purchased her. She was fostered until we could take her.
June Success
May Was a Great Month
In the month of June, we sent 30 dogs north of the border for a forever home and we had 7 local adoptions.
Volunteer of the Month
This month, we celebrate Jim Boles. Jim often comes on Wednesdays and walks our big dogs! They all adore him and love walking with him. He gives them a lot of time on the leash. I often see him sitting with the dog in the woods enjoying each other’s company and nature.
Flight Attendant Helps
A few months ago, we got this really sweet, older dog into our shelter. He had been living on an organic kale farm. Apparently, organic farms aren’t allowed to have animals and they were told to “get rid” of their dog. We named him Hank and he very quickly became a volunteer favorite.
Chumina After Chumino
About two years ago, we had three little Pekingese dogs brought to The Ranch. They were older dogs and their owner had moved away and left them in the home. A concerned neighbor brought them to us. Two of these dogs found their way to homes the the US, the other of these sweeties was adopted by Yoli of the hair salon, Yoli's in Ajijic.
Frankie Celebrates 1 Year
Our little pup, Frankie, is celebrating his one year adoptaversary with his new family in Bend Oregon. My how he’s grown! This is what his new mom, Kim, has to say:
Aida’s Transformation
At the Ranch, of course we love all adoption stories, but some are just so special. Especially when the adopter is one of our volunteers.
Marshmallow is Fluff
"Oh my gosh, I LOVE this little guy sooooooo much!!!! He is just the sweetest, most loving, easiest going little fella. He has some spunk and playfulness too that is starting to come out as he gets comfortable which is really fun. We are so happy and in love with him and feel very, very, lucky ”
