Flight Attendant Helps

HANK 4x3.jpg

A few months ago, we got this really sweet, older dog into our shelter. He had been living on an organic kale farm. Apparently, organic farms aren’t allowed to have animals and they were told to “get rid” of their dog. We named him Hank and he very quickly became a volunteer favorite.

Much to our dismay, he was diagnosed with a sexually transmitted cancer call TVT. We see it with some regularity. It is easily treated with chemo. Hank endured six weeks of treatments and was the best sport ever. Hank’s luck began to change after that!

A wonderful woman named Katie Cooney came down to fly dogs for Bone Voyage (BV). She is a flight attendant and BV has had many flight attendants come to the area and fly dogs for them. Often they spend the day working with us. Katie fell for Hank. She told some of her friends about Hank and they wanted him.

They live in Pittsburgh and that is not an easy place to get a dog to from Guadalajara. That didn’t daunt Katie. She offered to fly him to Chicago and then drive home the 6 hours or so to his new home.

The trip was made and love grew very quickly. Hank has a great new family who adores him and is caring for him beautifully. It is always amazing the power of love!
