Dog of the Month
This picture says it all. Phoenix is a classic Meximutt and everything good that means. He is gentle in nature; a happy guy who gets along with other dogs and loves to be around his human friends.
Three Legs, No Problem
Rescue and shelter life requires a large amount of committed and determined people. Our community here is strong and continues to get stronger. This is very well evidenced by the story of Lucy, the sweetest, friendliest most adorable dog ever!
Ears to Getting a Family
Late in October, we launched our sponsorship program. For a monthly donation, supporters can choose a dog who is living with us at The Ranch. The donation goes toward the care and feeding of a particular dog. This program has been quite successful.
A Year in Review
We have strong partnerships with the rescue shelters where we send our dogs north of the border. Most of them have been to Mexico and either Syd, or I have visited them.
Volunteer of the Month
Nancy Negus is a newcomer to Lakeside and we are so happy to have her at The Ranch.
Nancy’s day is Thursday and that’s always a good day for the dogs, because Nancy gets a lot of dogs walked. She is super comfortable with dogs and quickly learned to handle them.
Help Us to Help Them
Fundraising is challenging right now. We all miss our cool events that we have had over the few years. We all look very forward to having more events like our boat ride, concerts, cowboy hoedown and our garage sales.
It’s a Small World
Rescue is a small world and pets draw everyone together, so I guess I'm not surprised when our former Ranch pups intersect in their new lives. That's what happened with Vinnie and Mavis.
Volunteer of the Month
We have a lot of volunteers who do many things for the Ranch. Some never come out to the shelter but help with social media, or fundraising or many other things. One of our very most unique volunteers is Edward Hellyer.
Fosters are our Lifeline
Fosters are the backbone of rescue as well as the operations of our shelter. Whether it is for a couple of days, or for an extended period of time, our foster network is a valuable group.
Dog of the Month
This guy makes us laugh every single day.
Meet Terry the Basset Hound. His coloring is unusual as he is white and black, but he is a true Basset in every way. He has the cool bark, and the sense of humor for certain.
No Life Without Donna
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for helping us find Donna. We spend hours everyday wondering what life was like without her. She is so cherished and spoiled.
Serendipity
Serendipity....I love when things unexpectedly fall into place and the outcome is a happy one. Here is a story of serendipity at its finest.
Sponsor a Ranch Dog
Sponsorship is a wonderful way to actively help a dog in need. The Ranch relies on our generous and dedicated followers to assist in the care of our 100+ dogs.
Volunteer of the Month
There are a lot of people who do a lot of things to help The Ranch be a successful and happy place for around 100 dogs. Too many to count. They all do a myriad of things and each are very critical to the shelter.
Always Work To Do
Sometimes an adoption sticks with you for days after. Quesadilla’s is certainly one of those.

Mija Paddle Boarding
Some dogs are just love bugs. Lulu is one of them. She will take one look at you and flip over on her back expecting a belly rub. This mainly black colored girl is sweet and gentle and looks to be a Lab mix.
Learning to Trust Again
One of the moments I find most fulfilling at The Ranch is when we have a dog that we fear might be broken, that might not be a candidate for adoption, and then we work our magic and see that dog's true spirit. It’s happened often, but most recently it was with our Manuela.

The Joy of Flying
Flying dogs north of the border brings a huge amount of joy to all of us involved. There are a lot of people who make this happen.
