Volunteer of the Month

Most of our Ranch Hands live in the Lakeside area and come to The Ranch year round. Others, however, come to help us while they’re on vacationing in the area. One of those is Karen Parish.

Karen lives in Nova Scotia but her mother lives in Lakeside. About three years ago, Karen came to visit her mom and we really enjoyed getting to know her as she spent a couple of days each week at The Ranch. She’s a wonderful volunteer with great dog sense and such a big heart! After her first visit, she ended up flying a little Ranch dog home with her. Lucky little Lulu is now so well loved.

Covid kept Karen away for a few years, but fortunately for us she came to visit her mom for two months starting in December and once again we saw her at The Ranch two or three days a week. Dogs and fellow Ranch hands loved having her around! She also fostered two of our small, vulnerable puppies and gave them a great start.

I’m always so impressed when visitors to the area seek us out and spend their valuable vacation time helping our dogs. This is definitely a sign of a good, caring human being.

We bid Karen goodbye last week. We are certainly going to miss her and are already looking forward to her next visit!
