Special Foster Steps Up

A Special Foster Steps Up
by Carolyn Cothran

Four years ago or so, we took in 5 puppies. They were super timid and shy and despite all of our wonderful volunteers working with them, they took a very long time to warm up. In particular, the biggest problem was with the only female, who was white so we named her Snow. She had constant diarrhea and we were pretty sure was also deaf.

All of these years, we spent time with many different vets trying to get the diarrhea under control. She was tested many different times and the diagnosis always came back to Colitis due to stress. The shelter was not the best place for her, she kept losing weight and we were seriously worried about her.

We posted on Facebook a desperate plea for a foster. It could not be just any foster, but a place where Snow could be the only dog and get peace and quiet in order to hopefully improve.

Out of the blue, this wonderful couple, Lynn and Jeff, answered. Despite never owning a dog before, they jumped in with both feet. It turned out that Lynn could relate to Snow because she had been suffering from many of the same symptoms. Lynn, a retired RN, and Jeff have done a fantastic job of healing Snow. She is finally gaining weight, pooping normally and very attached to Jeff! They report that she is adjusting to her new life well, eating great and every day is better than the last.

Snow has been to the beach and loves it and is finally getting the life she so richlly deserves! We are also happy to report that thanks to a move to Mexico and some special medical treatment, Lynn too is now thriving.
