Shelters Helping Shelters
by Carolyn Cothran
There are many stories of the shelter community helping one another. We had the opportunity to do just that recently.
SOS, another local shelter, was forced to close a bit earlier than they expected before a new shelter was ready. This left them with quite a few dogs needing placement immediately. The leadership reached out to us and asked us to help. We had already taken 3 dogs from them several weeks prior in an effort to relieve them of some dogs but their need was greater.
Dulce, Manuel and I went out to SOS and agreed we could handle 6 more dogs, however we would really be overcrowding our facility. But we decided that the need was too great to say no and that somehow, we would find a way to help.
We took the 6 dogs and squeezed them in. Other rescues in the area took many dogs as well.
It is a good feeling to know that we will help each other in a time of need if at all possible. Our team and volunteers understood the need and also went the extra mile.
If anyone is interested in fostering, any of our wonderful dogs, please contact us.
