MANUEL cropped.jpg

By Carolyn Cothran

Several months ago, I was eating Sunday breakfast and I received a call about a dog who was being abused on a construction sight near my home. I dropped my toast and jumped in my car and took off to investigate.

The woman who called me met me and we took a look at this really sweet boy and I asked the man working on the sight if I could have him. My Spanish is so bad, that he just looked at me and nodded. I took the opportunity to pick up the dog and go. I carried that big boy a long way to my car and put him in the back seat and drove straight to The Ranch.

We named him Manuel. He is the sweetest boy ever, mellow and lazy and sort of funny. He was posted on Facebook and a friend of mine here sent it to a friend of hers who had been on the search for a new companion for a long time. He took one look at Manuel’s picture and reached out to me and said that he had to have him.

It took us awhile to find a flyer to Phoenix, but we did this week and Manuel made his Flight to Freedom. He is happily adjusting to his new life. We will miss our funny, sweet boy!
