Manchas Reunites with Brother
by Syd Sullins
Manchas arrived at The Ranch six years ago as a five-month old pup. He and his five litter mates had been rescued when they were only a few weeks old after being thrown into a ditch. Their hero, who rescued them, cared for them for several months and showed them nothing but love. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to erase the trauma of their abandonment. They were all frightened and very nervous around humans when they came to The Ranch.
Our Ranch hands began to work their magic and showed these dogs that humans can be kind. They got lots of extra attention. One-by-one they were adopted - except for Manchas. I’m not sure why it took so long, but good things come to those who wait.
One day in May, we were contacted by the adopter of Manchas’s brother, Ruzo. Although she had adopted Ruzo over a year ago, she couldn’t get Manchas out of her mind. She now lives in Puerto Vallarta. While on a brief trip to Lakeside, she spent some time with Manchas.
Well, Manchas was more than happy to have that opportunity. He happily greeted her as if they were old friends and off they went for a walk. Soon the decision was made. Manchas would go back to PV with her and rejoin his brother. I don’t believe we’ve ever had a happier day at The Ranch.
As a special treat, Dale, Corrine and I had lunch together to celebrate the day. To our great surprise, Manchas and his new mom walked into the restaurant. He looked like he had been with her all his life. His tail was wagging, he held his head up high and he had a beautiful smile on his face. He did greet us but made it clear that he had moved on.
Sometimes we’ve had dogs with us for so long that we start to lose hope. Manchas showed us that it’s never too late to find your special place!
