Volunteer of the Month

Welcome to one of our newer volunteers, Kim Hayes!

Kim moved to Lakeside just a few months ago. She’s a retired Navy veteran who then worked for the VA. Fortunately for us, Kim and her partner chose to retire Lakeside and she is a true dog lover. I met her when she had pulled a dog out of the busy carretera near Walmart - that was our Abby who recently flew to Friday Harbor.

Kim normally volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays and she is one who rolls her sleeves up and digs in. She’s cleaning water buckets, helping with lunch, walking dogs - whatever needs to be done. She also likes to have some hands on time with each of our dogs every day she volunteers. She stops into every kennel and gives each dog a quick pet and warm greeting. I love how she connects with all of our dogs, and every dog responds to her big smile.
