Fern Afraid of Life Until…
by Syd Sullins
One day in early August I arrived at The Ranch to find a small dog tied to the gate along with two pups. I picked up the pups and put them in my car and then started to untie the mom. Never had I seen a dog more terrified. She was too frightened to try and get away with me, instead she just froze. I took her into the casita so we could check her out and she started to shake from fear. Poor girl!
We did our usual intake and put her in a quiet run with the pups, but really didn’t see any improvement. The pups were old enough to be away from her, so we separated them and started looking for a foster. Luckily this beautiful girl quickly found a perfect spot with a very experienced couple who do lots of fostering for rescue groups in our area. Lynda and Gerard were quickly taken with our beautiful Fern and she started to come out of her shell in the few weeks she was with them, but they were concerned she might become too attached so we started looking for another foster home. And boy did we luck out!
She went to the home of our amazing supporters, Jack and Justo. They run a beautiful B&B and it’s important for them that their dogs be quiet and not disruptive. I had a feeling that Fern might fit in their perfectly. Two days after I delivered her to them, I got word that she had become a permanent resident! They totally fell in love with her, she very seldom barks and their other two dogs quickly accepted her. Now known as Roxie, this beautiful dog is safe, happy and very loved!
