The Bad and The Good

by Carolyn Cothran

A couple of months ago, a man came with a dog, named Wendy, to The Ranch. He said that he had adopted her from us and was moving back north and wouldn’t take her with him. As the staff was talking to him, he jumped in his car and threw Wendy out and took off. Yes, this does happen occasionally and it breaks our hearts. But then there was good news.

I received a phone call later that day from a distraught woman. Wendy was her dog. She had been in a relationship with this man and he abandoned both of them. She was devastated and desperately wanted Wendy back. Unfortunately, she had relocated outside of Mexico City and couldn’t afford to come and get her.

Syd and I felt so sorry for both of them. Wendy was a very lovely dog who just wanted love and affection. We knew what had to happen. We arranged to fly Wendy to Mexico City one Sunday afternoon escorted by our Dulce.

The reunion was one for the movies; there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Wendy was thrilled to see her Mom, and the woman was so thrilled to have Wendy in her arms again. We are so grateful that we are able to do these things for our beautiful charges.
